The Countdown to Christmas Begins!

The Countdown to Christmas officially gets underway this week with W Network’s holiday programming set to begin Friday, October 18th! This year is W Network’s biggest offering of Hallmark holiday content and includes movies and series from Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Mystery and Hallmark+. An earlier press release only mentioned one holiday series – Mistletoe Murders – coming to Canada but joining the mystery series in this year’s lineup on W are Holidazed and Finding Mr. Christmas.

Also included in W Network’s lineup are a few movies that are not from Hallmark. Only one previously aired in Canada: Fox’s 2023 movie The Christmas Break. The other two are brand new for 2024: Abracadabra and a Christmas Miracle (previously Hocus, Pocus Christmas), which was rumored to be for Hallmark but seems to be a Canadian exclusive, and UPtv’s second Dial S for Santa mystery, which is not surprising since W premiered the first last year.

For those who have saved W’s “Premiere Checklist”, please note that two dates still differ from the Corus press release and haven’t been updated: Believe in Christmas premieres Saturday, November 30th at 6pm (not Friday, November 29th) and The Finnish Line premieres Sunday, December 1st at 6pm (not Saturday, November 30th). The dates in the press release align with the US premieres, which makes more sense than the two movies airing in Canada before their US premiere. If you are following the press release though, please note that it seems to contain one error: Abracadabra and a Christmas Miracle premieres Thursday, October 24th (as per the Premiere Checklist) and not Friday, October 25th (for which another movie is listed). The schedule shared in the previous post accounts for all of these discrepancies and hopefully an update on W Network’s website comes soon to confirm it.

Despite this being the biggest return of the network’s Countdown to Christmas, not all of Hallmark’s 2024 holiday movies made W’s lineup this year. Missing are A ’90s Christmas (Hallmark Channel), This Time Each Year (Hallmark Mystery), three “Christmas on Cherry Lane” movies (Hallmark+) and four “Unwrapping Christmas” movies (Hallmark+). Hopefully these movies make it to Canada as well – stay tuned for updates once other Canadian networks announce their holiday programming.
